*I’m Spoiler Riiiiiiiiick!”

I know it has gained a huge following over the last year, I for one am amongst them that only joined the cult after the second season had finished, but Rick and Morty is fucking brilliant. I love it. And not just because everyone else likes it, or because of its occasional slapstick or fart humour, but because of the deep underlining storylines that feature throughout, or that reoccur later on down the line, and for the actual logical plausibleness of everything that happens in a classic Science Fiction way of “yeah it could happen in an alternate universe/time line/planet”. Of course a world in habited by Hamsters sticking out of human arses is absurd, the show never really draws too much attention to it in a “look how silly this is!” kind of way. It is simply just as Rick said back in episode one of the first season; Don’t think about it.

The third season has been a long time coming. I know that there was a rickdiculous (intended) amount of time between the two seasons, with fans wondering if we were ever going to see the adventures of our two favourite time travelling companions. That was until April 1st 2017; April Fools Day. Someone at the studio thought “hey, let’s put the first episode out today” and suddenly it was up. No announcement before hand or anything. It was just suddenly there. I did not believe the friend who told me, thinking it was an April Fools Joke, but it appeared that the joke was in fact on all of us, because there it was, sitting there ready to be taken like a bountiful pile of Mega-Fruit.

The first episode was brilliant. Where some episodes of Rick and Morty are just self contain craziness, this one continued on from where last season left off. Mr Sanchez was locked up in a Galactic Federation prison, and the Federation themselves were trying to get a hold of secrets out of his memories. Staring Firefly’s; Nathan Fillion, Rick manages to absolutely destroy the Federation, the Citadel, and the Council of Ricks (not to mention the entire unit of SEAL Team Rick), and we realise that Rick has been doing everything to get his hands on the discontinued McDonald’s Szechuan sauce, a promotional product for the 1998 film Mulan.
It is an amazingly random thing that has caused ripples in the real world. Now everyone is going mental for this sauce, and I have just read an article that McDonald’s are bringing it back for one day only in the US… so I am going to need to get on my contacts for some of that sweet McNugget sauce.
By the end of the episode, the status quo has been restored and everything is back as it should be… with one exception. Jerry; Morty’s dad, gave Beth an ultimatum to choose out of him or her father; Rick, and she chose him, so now the two of them have separated.

I will not go into the ins and outs of every episode, more like a brief run through as there are only ten of them, but I did that this one did stand out and build the foundations of the entire season, as a lot of storylines are linked to this.
In the end credits scene, we saw Bird Person be reborn as a cyborg titled; Phoenix Person, but unfortunately we didn’t get to see him for the rest of the season (probably one of my only major qualms with this season as there were a few other key moments that occurred and were never mentioned again, so no doubt we will have to wait until season 4 to find out).

After the first episode aired, it wasn’t until July 30th that we got episode 2! How torturous! It was criminal. But needless to say, it was worth the wait. After this the episodes came weekly and the world returned to normal once more.

The second episode was a take on the Mad Max universe, with Summer, Rick and Morty travelling to a post apocalyptic world dominated by raiders in massive cars, Thunder Domes, and Morty’s giant arm with a mind of its own and a thirst for vengeance.
While it was a self contained episode, it showed Jerry moving out of the family house and living in his cruddy apartment.

The next episode was the infamous; Pickle Rick. What an amazing episode. It was absolutely fucking hilarious.
Rick turns himself into a pickle in order to get out of the family’s council therapy, but Beth takes the serum he could use to turn himself human again. Pickle Rick becomes lost in the sewer and battles against blood thirsty rats, before harvesting their organs, bones, and building himself a mobile exoskeleton. He finds himself stuck inside a shady government agency building, whereby he must fight against the guards and the agency heads who try to kill him, not to mention Jaguar; a criminal Russian assassin doing it all for his daughter’s freedom (and Jaguar is played by Danny Trejo).
It was probably one of the best episodes of this season.

Following that came; Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender. This was another great episode where Rick and Morty joined up with the Vindicators; a group of intergalactic superheroes, to fight their arch-nemesis, Worldender. It turns out that they all hate Rick and, much to Morty’s disappointment, both of them ended up missing Vindicators 2 because of it. Rick gets drunk and ends up, not only defeating Worldender himself, but setting the Vindicators up in a SAW like game where most of them end up meeting their demise in this hilarious episode.
“Who the fuck is Noob-Noob?”

After that came a Jerry episode where Rick and Jerry travel to an otherworldly resort where no one can die. A protective immortality force field covers the resort and people can do whatever they like. Naturally someone wants to kill Rick and hires Jerry to do it.
A separate storyline follows Summer messing about with one of her grandpa’s inventions and ends up making herself enormous… then inside.

The next episode was a little bit forgettable. I had completely forgot it until just now re-reading about it. Rick and Morty decide to relax and have all their negativity taken out of themselves… literally, however the off-cuts of Rick are too powerful and end up breaking lose to spread their toxic on the world.
While every episode of this show is amazing and has you cracking up, this one just seemed to fall off of my radar.

The episode after is probably my own personal favourite of the season. It shows us various different lives of the Ricks and Mortys at the Citadel as it is being rebuilt following C137 Rick destroying it. It shows a Morty running for President, a cop Rick’s first day on the job with a corrupt Morty, a Stand By Me style coming of age story of 4 different Morty’s, and an everyday average Joe Rick working at Simple Rick’s wafer factory. Each storyline is great and the ending of the episode left a lingering taste as we saw that the Morty who was won the Presidential election was actually the Evil Morty from an episode in season 1 (the one with the eye-patch who was controlling the Evil Rick). It was hauntingly well done and left me really wanting more. Unfortunately we do not see any repercussions from this afterwards, so we will have to wait and see in season 4 what happens next.

The next episode; Morty’s Mind Blowers, is an Inter-dimensional Cable-esc episode which shows various memories that Morty has asked Rick to get rid of, as well as some that Rick chose himself to remove from Morty’s mind.
While the episode was nowhere near as good as the Inter-dimensional Cable episodes, it was still incredibly funny. The bizarre storyline where Morty gets a man to kill himself because he saw him on the Moon “plotting/up to something” had me in tears of laughter.

The penultimate episode; the ABC’s of Beth had two stories running parallel to one another. One followed Beth and Rick travelling to Froopyland; a fantasy world that Rick made for Beth, to find school friend of hers that she trapped in there. It turns out he has been inbreeding with the fun creature in there, creating a race of hybrids, and then eating the young to survive, as well as being completely mad (if the above did not already imply that).
While the other story follows Jerry as he has a new alien girlfriend and they take the kids on a few alien hunting adventures. Jerry is naturally on the rebound after Beth and doesn’t have the heart to break up with her at first, but eventually does so and worms out of it by blaming the kids causing the alien girlfriend to seek vengeance against them.

The final episode, I was a little disappointed in. Although it did make Keith David’s return to the show (having previously played the President earlier and Reverse Giraffe from the Total Rickall episode) it was not the greatest, especially as it would be the final episode of Rick and Morty until fuck knows when season 4 is released.
This one involved the President of the United States calling upon Rick and Morty for help in sorting out an alien mess, leading to them deciding that they do not want to be the US’ “Ghost Busters” and wanting out. The President and Rick engage in a battle of egos, which strangely lead to the Smith family getting back together, including Jerry and Beth! By the end of the episode, normality has returned and everything is as it should be.
In the post credits scene, Mr. Poopybutthole returns to apologize for not appearing in Season 3, but since we last saw him he’s married and has had a son. He ends by saying that it will be a long wait until Season 4.

Overall the season was great. There were only a few forgettable episodes, but even they had some funny moments. It was a solid season that has left us all wanting more… whenever that might be. The only thing we can do is travel to an alternate dimension where Season 4 has already been created and watch it there!

See you in dimension G128!!!!!
